May is the final round of the 2016/17 Worthing Community Chest funding. Fred Weller was the Chair of the Panel and seven groups were awarded over £7,500 in total. Below is Fred’s report from the Panel.
Wednesday 24 May saw members meeting at Field Place for the final round of this financial year’s Appraisal Panels. Also there was Inga, our Grants Administrator and Ann, one of our Trustees. Of the 9 applications all but one were approved by the panel.
The Worthing Society asked for a change to one of the items they had been granted to purchase at the November Panel because of savings they had made on other items and this was approved. Cellar Arts Club resubmitted their application with more detailed information to respond to issues raised by the Panel at its February meeting and were awarded a grant towards the purchase of technical equipment. Chatsmore Catholic High School were awarded a grant towards the cost of their extra-curricular project of creating a stained glass window to be erected on Worthing Pier commemorating the WW1 Battle of Boars Head, a joint project with Marcel LeJosne School in Richebourg, France. Go Youth Activities were awarded a grant towards the purchase and erection of a disabled toilet at their Compound site at Goring. Worthing Combined Ex-Services Association were awarded a grant towards the hire of the sound system for the West Sussex Armed Forces weekend on the 24th and 25th June. Victoria Park Volunteer Group were awarded a grant towards their costs for a new project to create a picnic area, sensory garden and art trail In Victoria Park. Worthing Breathe Easy were awarded a grant towards the cost of hiring minibuses and a light meal to take some of their members and carers out on a day trip. The 4 Elements Exhibition is a new 3 day project in August featuring music, artwork and dance based on the history of Hip Hop music. They were awarded a grant towards the cost of various materials and publicity. The grants awarded totalled 7,756.76.
As always, the Panel members gave each application the care and consideration it deserved. Some of the discussion was detailed and intense with everyone making constructive contributions. As chair of the Panel for the meeting I have to say how much pleasure I had in sharing time with such a committed and delightful group. Worthing Community Chest goes from strength to strength and is superbly supported by members of the Appraisal Panel.
