In May 2016 Worthing Community Chest Directors, Fred Weller and Andy Hammond, visited the Old Barn Short Mat Bowls Club to see them in action, and to hand over a cheque for £1008.72 towards the purchase of a new short bowls mat along with rubber starter mats.

They were impressed by the very warm and friendly welcome they received, and the obvious camaraderie between the club members.

The club has had a particularly impressive season, gaining promotion to the top division, and making their mark in the Champion of Champions weekend. Old Barn’s team of Mick Darters and Mick Page won the Pairs, while Mick Wilson, Carol Taylor and Lee Bunting were runners up in the Triples. Although one of the smaller clubs in Worthing, they have achieved outstanding results, and continue to grow.

Wendy Wilson from the Bowls Club thanked Worthing Community Chest ‘the grant money has enabled us to buy a new bowling mat to replace the very worn one we had, making it much nicer for us and visiting league clubs to play matches on’
