Lisa, our office Volunteer, writes our latest blog about our cheque presentation at Sustainable Sussex.

In early October, Worthing Community Chest visited the Sustainable Sussex Chilli Farm to award 1500.00, which will be used to buy items, including a dehydrator, to store farmed chillies.

The Chilli Farm is based within The Worthing Leisure Centre grounds and they make good use of a small designated area that contains green houses and polytunnels, which are full to the brim with a large variety of different chilli plants.

We received a very warm welcome, and I was immediately impressed by the huge knowledge and enthusiasm displayed by all the volunteers involved in the project.

I was shown many different varieties of chillies, all beautiful colours and with many varying degrees of strength.

I discovered chillies can be used in so many ways. Many of these ideas are being explored by the team working there, and you can’t but help be drawn into the love of their project. I particularly like the idea of the spicy jam, which seems to a popular venture.

They were keen to show us a lovely vegetable planting area, complete with seating, to enable visitors to enjoy the benefit of their hard work.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the group and know with all their hard work and determination they will go on to build a fantastic project.

Good work everyone!
