Willow Living Dome

Willow Living Dome

Guest Blogger – Ellie from Worthing WildLife.

Worthing WildLife was formed in October 2014, with an aim to enhance wildlife habitats within the Worthing area, by involving the community with wildlife projects.

During the February half term, a spectacular living Willow Dome was created in Beach House Park as part of a community park project organised by Creative Waves Community Arts and Worthing WildLife.   A collaborative community project involving 170 people who attended free workshops to help construct the dome and take part in willow craft activities, under the guidance and expertise of Creative Willow.

The Community Chest grant enabled us to have expert training in how to look after the willow dome, allowed us to buy a tablet so to take photos, keep in touch with social media, research wildlife, plants & habitats, and plan the next stage of our project.

The Willow Dome was the first phase of this wildlife project which will be named Bugcycle.  Throughout 2015 a disused patch of tarmac, next to the willow dome in Beach House Park will be transformed into a creative, educational, sensory garden for all to enjoy.  The team are planning to work with local community groups and schools to create unusual planters / sculptures out of recycled objects filled with plants, flowers & vegetables.  The new habitat will attract local wildlife and insects.  Access to the garden is free and will be a fantastic new area for local community events, groups and schools to use.

If you would like to be involved with the voluntary gardening or art/craft activities in the park please email info@creativewaves.co.uk or  worthingwildlife@gmail.com
