Last weekend Worthing Community Chest went along to the Armed Forces Weekend in Worthing to present them with a cheque. Here is Trustee, Fred Weller’s report.

Despite the rather damp and windy day there were plenty of people attending the Armed Forces Weekend displays in Steine Gardens on Saturday 24th June.   Councillor Tom Wye and I were there too, in our role as Trustees, to present a cheque to the organisers from Worthing Community Chest.   The Community Chest had been asked to make a grant towards the hire cost of the sound system used for the variety of choirs, shows and other displays, especially the drumhead service on the Sunday morning.   The Appraisal Panel had approved the grant and it was a pleasure for Tom and I to present the cheque for £1,500.00 to Janet Goldsborough-Jones, Chief Organiser and Bob Scott, President of the Association.

Worthing Community Chest exists to provide grants in support of local not for profit organisations, clubs and groups throughout Worthing, mostly run and supported by volunteers, that enhance the lives of local residents and communities, whatever the scale of their endeavour.   50% of our income is funded by Worthing Borough Council, the rest from our own sources, donations and fundraising.   The presentation of the grant to Worthing Armed Forces Weekend is one of hundreds of examples of the work undertaken by Worthing Community Chest in supporting initiatives and ongoing projects that benefit our own residents.
